Press the key ENTER or RETURN to choose an option. From the menu you can change player/team names and select the length of the game. CONTROLLING THE GAME The CHOOSE CONTROLS option on the menu lets you choose how you control your players - with joysticks or using keys, and wether you want to use any game adaptors/interfaces etc. The SPECTRUM version of the game is compatible with KEMPSTON, CURSOR, SINCLAIR PORT 1 and SINCLAIR PORT 2 interfaces. Each player has five actions, LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN and KICK. If you want to play usingthe keyboard, go to the option labelled REDEFINE KEYS or CONTROLS. The computer will tell you what keys to use or let you choose some of your own (certain machines only). You can choose how many people can play from the menu. One to FOUR people can play simultaneously (depending on machine format). In a TWO PLAYERS . . . TEAM game, two people can play on the same team, against the computer. In a THREE PLAYERS . . . game, player 1 and player 3 are on the first team, and player 2 is the second team. Each player can only control one footballer atatime — he's the one with a square over his head! (inside the square is the player number, so you know who's who). If you select SELECTION (AUTO) from the menu, then the computer will make sure that you always control the player nearest to the ball. You can change to the next nearest player by pressing your KICK button — this is useful for controlling your goalie in goalmouth action. In a MANUAL selection game you must move your marker over the team member that you want to control, then press KICK. To move to another player, press KICK to 'release' your marker, and then choose another player as described above. In a MANUAL game, you can choose yourteams playing tactics, ATTACK or DEFEND. This decides whether the rest of your team plays aggressively or defensively, and can be changed at any time during the match. (Just move your marker next to the word ATTACK or DEFEND to choose that style of play. TO CONTROL THE BALL . . . Run your player up to the ball and he'll start dribbling it. You can now run around the pitch with it. Press KICK to kick the ball with medium strength in the direction that you're running. Press KICK + DIRECTION that you're running for a low pass. Press KICK + OPPOSITE direction to the one you're running to shoot. The power of a kick is proportional to the speed that your footballer is run- ning. FREEKICKS . . . CORNERS . . . GOALKICKS . . . PENALTIES . . . A freekick is awarded after a foul or a handball. Run at the ball in the direction you want to kick it- you don't have to press the kick key. THROW-INS Point the player in the direction that you want to throw, press KICK. SCORING Points are scored for having possession of the ball and distance dribbled, as well as a 100 point bonus for scoring a goal. SOCCER — The full 1 1-a-side game A fully featured soccer game, with all the rules and incredibly smooth fast action. A real pleasure to play. The ultimate soccer simulator. INDOOR 5-A-SIDE SOCCER The game is played in a totally enclosed area. There are no throw-ins, goalkicks or corners — the ball just bounces off the walls. There is no offside rule, but a freekick is given if you enter the other teams goalmouth. The pitch is very small, so be ready to defend any quick attacks, and take advantage of any lucky breaks. STREET SOCCER Soccer in your back yard! Dribble around houses, on pavements and cars, bouncing the ball off walls and fences to score spectacular goals. Be careful though — there are hardly any rules in STREET SOCCER, and fights and arguments can break out at the slightest opportunity. Watch where you kick the ball— is all too easy to lose it in atree or over a wall, and the game will come to a sudden end!
