Foggy London - A 'Sherlock' Environment

edited December 2013 in Games
After visting WILDERLAND a year ago I have no moved on to FOGGY LONDON at the turn of the last century! -- Have you ever asked yourself what Inspector Lestrade, Tricia or Major Ffoulkes do while Sherlock has left London to investigate the murder cases in the beautiful town of Leatherhead? Where Daphne sleeps? Which locations of (today's) London can be found in the 48 kB of Spectrum memory?

No it's time to find out with my Sherlock environment Foggy London (FL)!

    Amazing work!
I was curious about the inner workings of Sherlock so when I get some time I'll definitely have a play with this!
    Carry on!

Nice work, on both this & the Hobbit.

It amazes me how everything was crammed in to memory for both these games. I think the way objects, characters etc. are listed in one big table and the weird things that could happen during the game really makes them different from other text adventures of the time.

Jumping to the 'Place which is too full to enter' in your Hobbit environment answered a question I'd had for 30 years. It compiled nicely on Raspbian too.

Looking forward to exploring Sherlock, I could only get to about Wednesday playing it properly. Thanks for releasing this very cool software.

I loved Sherlock, but only got so far as decoding the letters (well, my dad did those!)

As the game went on, it became a nightmare of trying to time events exactly, which along with the fickle buggy nature of the programme made it worse. I tried it again a while ago on an emulator with a walkthrough and still could not complete it.

Think I missed the episode in London!

Yes, good stuff, thankyou. I always wondered where Gandalf disappeared to, and whether 'The pale bulbous eyes' were a character or just a programmed event. And now I know after 30 years. Thanks very much.

Coincidentally, "The Digital Antiquarian" just wrote a blog post about this game:

I posted a link to your program in the comments (awaiting moderation).
