JUNGLE TROUBLE by Mike Richardson INTRODUCTION Cross the river using stepping stones to avoid the crocodile, then carry your axe to the forest. A magnified of you axe will appear on the bottom of the screen. To jump over the stepping stones you must have the longest run up possible, and press the jump key just as you approach the water. If you fall in the water you will loose your axe and may be eaten by the crocodile. If you jump sucessfully then release the jump key when you are in the air. To climb to the next level position your man at the bottom of the ladder and then press the move-up key. To fell a tree stand beside it and repeatedly press the chop key. As you chop a niche appears in the trunk and your axe blade becomes blunt - so it will take longer to chop (but you can go back to the start for a new one). When the tree is about to fall it will shake and you must move from under it or die! If a monkey approaches you may strike it down if your axe is sharp by pressing the 'strike monkey' key as it sits beside you. If you have no axe then you will lose a life. To swing across the fire pit, stand on the centre of the rim and press the jump key to grab the rope. If you catch the rope then keep pressing the jump key to hold on to it. HARRIER ATTACK by Mike Richardson CONTROLS 5 Slower 8 Faster 7 Higher (and take-off) 6 Lower (and land) 0 Rocket space-bar Eject NB: Skill level 1 - short mission, relatively large amount of fuel, low chance of damage by enemy flak. Skill levels 2 to 5 - progressively longer sorties over the island, more fuel and ammunition, greater chance of damage from enemy flak. PLAYING THE GAME Take-off and fly (right) towards the island. Speed-up to about three-quarters maximum or you will run out of fuel. Avoid the guided missile launched by the enemy patrol boat. At higher skill levels the chances of flak destroying you Harrier will greatly increase, if you fly high you will be detected by enemy jet fighters. Shoot enemy planes and land-based weapons with your rockets - but dodge out of the way of the explosion or your own plane will be damaged. You may also bomb the enemy artillery as you fly over the island, but keep enough bombs in reserve to wipe-out their base. Fly on to your other carrier (far side of the island) to land. At any time during the game you may eject and abort the mission. If you eject just before your plane is destroyed you will receive bonus points for saving your life. PLAYING THE GAME The screen is divided into two parts, the right shows your depth, oxygen, top score, current score, the score you have in your hand (ie: object held's value - but can you get it back to the boat?), the current skill level, and the number of 'lives' left. You start in a boat containing three divers. Press the move forward key to dive in. Avoid all sea creatures and the boat, which will kill you except if you climb onto the back. When you reach an oyster on the sea bed you must wait until it opens - then touch the pearl to collect. To climb onto the boat touch the ladder at the back. When you are safely in, your held score is added to your main score and your oxygen supply is renewed. If while diving you accidentally touch a rock, you will be knocked unconscious for a few seconds and drop everything. On the sea bed you will find a hollow containing an octopus which you will have to pass to enter the undersea cavern. This cavern contains more sea creatures and at the bottom there are giant clams which contain giant pearls. To obtain these pearls wait until a clam opens then touch the lower segment of the clam. If the clam closes while you are touching it you will be knocked unconscious for a few seconds. At the bottom of the cavern you will find another hollow containing another octopus which you can pass to enter the undersea caves. The first time you manage to pass the second octopus you will gain an extra 'life'. In the caves you will find more sea creatures, more giant clams, oxygen cylinders and chests of treasure. If you find an oxygen cylinder you can replenish your oxygen supply by touching it. There may be up to three chests of treasure in the caves. You can obtain jewels by touching the chests. If you manage to collect all the pearls and treasure, you will get bonus points and a new set of caves, clams and oysters will appear at the next skill level. You must kill or avoid the bugs. If four bugs get onto your worm you die. Use the map at the bottom left of the screen to locate spindles, which will appear as small white dots. If you get "bugged" find a black & white striped block and crawl under it - this is the "de-bugger" (and will remove all your bugs). Eat as many spindles as you can, as they replenish your supply of sparkies, and you must eat 50 before you can clone yourself. Pick up as many extra sparkies as you can find (usually running down the data buses). To get onto the data buses you must find a ramp. There are crawler bugs which you can shoot with blaster sparkies straight from your nose, and there are creeper bugs that fly around in sputniks which you can shoot down by laying burper sparkies. These will wait until a sputnik is overhead, then rise up to get it. However if the sputnik is very high, it will probably pass above the burper sparky without being hit, SCORE You score points for killing bugs and for collecting spindles. Watch the bottom right of you screen to check your supply of sparkies (ammunition), and how many spindles you have still to collect before "cloning".
