PHILEAS FOGG'S BALLOON BATTLES ------------------------------ Phileas Fogg, the World renowned traveller and explorer, has volunteered for a dangerous and daring mission. Taking off in his Hydrogen Balloon with high pressure directional thrust, Philleas must scout hostile enemy fire regions dropping bombs on enemy positions, and land with his precious information at the feet of the Allied Commander. Phileas Fogg's Balloon Battles takes you on a breathtaking journey through a field of war in 1871. Above you is a Balloon filled with one of the most explosive substances known to man, Hydrogen. Using the Wind and the Balloon's High Pressure Thrust, you must scout the area mapping enemy positions whilst avoiding the enemy forces who are ready to blow Phileas out of the sky with gunshot and cannon. Phileas Fogg's Balloon Battles is no leisurely cruise around the atmosphere, but a fast roller-coaster kind of ride with instant death only one misjudgement away. KEMPSTON JOYSTICK GAMESPLAY Philleas Fogg has stopped on his Around the World Journey to help the Allies who are under heavy attack from all sides. He decides that their best course of action is to use his Balloon to map out the area and destroy as many enemy installations as possible. Armed with a supply of Sand Bags. Bombs and Hydrogen Gas. Philleas takes off to commence his mission. The Balloon gains height by dropping Sandbags or a Bomb, and loses height by releasing a unit of Hydrogen Gas. The FIRE button must be pressed to drop Sandbags, Bombs, or Hydrogen Gas Canisters. The various amounts of each article remaining are show at the bottom of the screen. As the Balloon gains and looses height, it may become affected by winds that blow in four different directions. Luckly, Philleas has developed a High Pressure Thrust for his latest expeddion which can be used to slow, or speed up the Hydrogen Balloon in all directions The Musketeers on the ground will use their cannons and muskets to blow Philleas Fogg's Balloon out of the sky. One direct hit causes the Hydrogen gas in the Balloon to explode, and allows the basket to plummet to the Earth. The Allies have setup Shacks at locations in the area that contain extra supplies of Sandbags, Food, Bombs, and Hydrogen Gas. The positions of these Shacks are indicated by an arrow on the Right Hand Side of the screen, which turns into a Shack when the Balloon is in the near vicinity. The allies have positioned flags on top of the Shacks to show their allegiance to the Crown, and you must land near these to collect the supplies. The Balloon altitude is shown at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, and certain heights must be reached to avoid the following natural and man-made hazards. LAKES - Causes the Basket to be water-logged and heavy disabling the Balloon. ROCKS - Destroys the Basket Awnings if landed on. SHACKS - Have a Balloon Height of One. TOWNS - Have a Balloon Height of One MUSKETEERS- Musket Shot can only reach a Balloon Height of Two. CANNONS - Cannon Balls can reach a Balloon Height of Three. HILLS - Normally have a Balloon Height of Three. MOUNTAINS - Impassable. Philleas Fogg flies during the day and night on his mission, as time indicator shows. As the day grows warmer, the gas in the Balloon expands making it rise and fall quicker and more efficiently. Nighttime has the opposite effect, with the gas contracting and the Balloon flight is very costly in terms of Hydrogen Gas. It is therefore recommended that you spend the night beside a friendly enemy Shack.
