Mu Torere 1984 Grisewood & Dempsey Ltd Written by Patricia Grady GAME NOTES Mu Torere is a traditional Maori game from New Zealand. The board consists of an 8-pointed star and a central area called the 'putahi'. The original boards were either drawn on the ground or marked out on the bark of a tree. Now you can play Mu Torere against the computer. You have the black pieces (numbered 1 to 4) and the computer has the red pieces. This is a blocking game. The aim is to blockade the computer's pieces so that they cannot move. There are three types of move: (1) from the centre to a point of the star; (2) from one point to an adjacent point; (3) from a point of the star to the centre (but only if one or both neighbouring points are occupied by the enemy). The best way to learn the game is by playing it as the computer will not allow you to break the rules! (When typing the program Spectrum users should note that the keywords DEF FN and FN are used in several places.)
