Instructions for City (Terminal Software) ========================================= THE GAME City is a real-time better-than-a-board-game in which the Spectrum keeps track of the money and properties - and acts as a timekeeper - while the City you build takes on a life of its own. This City has banks, factories, houses, apartment blocks, shops and pubs. Four property developers struggle for rents and profits - building, purchasing and demolishing their way to one million pounds. But life isn't that simple because in City you have to pay taxes - and the banks charge interest on overdrafts too! When people start to move about and property values alter you'll really be glad that the Spectrum is keeping track of everything while you just play the game. For 1-4 players. STARTING THE GAME The Spectrum will prompt you to select the game length: Race, Short, Medium, Long These game types have different characteristics. When you have selected the game type the playing screen will appear. Be sure that you and the other players Enter the game quickly before the Spectrum takes over too many of the companies. Once the game has started U will recall the Utilities screen and E will allow players to Enter the game. Both these keys must be held down. OBJECTIVE You start to play with #200,000. The winner is the first to make #1,000,000. MOVEMENT You move around the city grid using keys 5, 6, 7, 8. When you bump the side of the grid the Spectrum will offer you a choice of prompts. CONTROL KEYS For prompts which occur on the playing screen it is sufficient to press the control key only. When in doubt either C for Continue or I for Information will be available. Any inputs below the playing screen must be followed by ENTER. PLAYING THE GAME Use the Information screens. The prompts given during the course of the game and the information available on request are sufficient to allow you to play the game immediately. JAIL You are sent to Jail (bottom right of screen) for the crime of bumping another player's marker. The term of your imprisonment depends on the number of your previous offences. Only one player may be jailed at a time - there is no penalty for offences committed while the jail is occupied. Players in jail must remain active - or the Spectrum will forget them! At the end of a term of imprisonment you are returned to the scene of the offence to rejoin the game. GAME SAVE FEATURE In order to Save your game on a blank cassette to be started at a later date, press U for the Utilities screen and S to enter the game Save routine. Be sure to unplug your cassette output lead before attempting to save a game. City is saved in two parts; you must watch the screen and press a key when required. -- Transcribed by: Jim Grimwood, Dead Dog Farm, Hatfield, England --
