STAR QUEST Copyright Church Army 1984 PLAYING STAR QUEST The computer will act as your guide and interpreter throughout the game, and will accept your instructions in the form of a verb/noun combination. Examples of this are 'take carrot', 'go West', etc. Multiple statements such as 'take the carrot and then go West' will not be understood so well. Part of the fun of Star Quest is to discover which words will work, but here, to get you started, are some of the most important ones: N,S,E,W These letters can be used as abbreviations for directions. For example, typing 'e' will have exactly the same affect as 'east' or 'go east'. INVE. This is short for INVENTORY, and will print a list of your current possessions, and the amount of silver you have left. HELP. Try this one if you are really stuck, you will not always receive a useful answer, but who knows? LOOK. This command will reprint a description of your present location. STOP. This will terminate the game if you do not wish to continue. SAVE. This useful facility allows you to preserve the current state of play, you may wish to use this if you are about to do something risky, or even if it is simply time to go to bed! You will need a spare cassette on which to SAVE your progress. LOAD. The complementary instruction to SAVE. LOAD the main programme as usual and when the first location appears, type LOAD and then follow the on screen instructions. LOADING INSTRUCTIONS Insert a cassette into your tape recorder and connect a lead from the EAR socket on the Spectrum to the EAR socket on the recorder. Set the tape recorder volume to approximately 3/4 and tone controls to maximum treble. Type LOAD and then press the ENTER key. Start the tape recorder and then press any key. If the programme fails to load, alter the volume setting slightly. SOME HINTS Remember to use the verb/noun combination, your Spectrum will understand this best. If a command does not have a desired effect, don't give up, try putting it another way. Above all, think carefully about situation you encounter, simply rushing off into the distance will mean missing many opportunities and clues. To avoid disappointment, do not attempt to BREAK into the programme, it is likely to CRASH.
