This classic Sega arcade hit, in the true Ronald Reagan Strategic Defense Initiative style, tests your skills in both offensive and defensive warfare to the limit. It's all out nuclear war and your mission is to defend your country from enemy nuclear space weapons and save the planet from imminent catastrophe. LOADING INSTRUCTIONS -------------------- Set-up your Computer System as detailed in the instruction booklets that accompany your Computer, and connect to your TV or monitor. Ensure that any cartridges or peripherals (such as disk drives, cassette players, printers, etc.) are disconnected from your computer. Failure to do so may cause loading difficulties. (If your computer has a built in disk or cassette drive you will not be able to disconnect the built-in item, but ensure that any other peripherals are disconnected.) COMMODORE 64/128 DISK --------------------- 1. Turn on your disk drive and computer. 2. If you are using a Commodore 128 type the following: 6064 then press RETURN Y then press RETURN. 3. Insert the disk in your disk drive, label side up. 4. Plug a joystick into port 2. 5. Type LOAD"*",8,1, and press RETURN. After a short while, the title screen will appear. COMMODORE 64/128 CASSETTE ------------------------- 1. Turn on your computer. If your are using a Commodore 128 type the following: 6064 then press RETURN Y then press RETURN. 2. Insert the cassette into your datacassette, side A facing upwards, and ensure it is fully rewound. 3. Plug a joystick into port 2. 4. Hold down the SHIFT key, then press the key marked RUN/STOP. SPECTRUM 48K/128K/+ CASSETTE ---------------------------- 1. If you are using a 128K/+ machine then select 48K mode. 2. Type LOAD"" and then press ENTER. ATARI ST -------- 1. Insert disk 1 and switch on monitor and computer. 2. After a short while the loading screen will be displayed and the music will play. Afterthe music stops the main game will load automatically. (Pressing SPACE while the music plays will skip the rest of the music.) You will be prompted to insert disk 2. 3. If you are using a 520 ST the levels will be loaded from disk on completion of each level. If using a 1040 ST all twelve levels will load into memory. LOADING DIFFICULTIES -------------------- We are always seeking to improve the quality of our product range, and have developed high standards of quality control to bring you this product. Therefore, in the event that you experience any difficulties whilst loading, it is unlikely to be a fault with the product itself. Use the joystick, when pressing the fire button, to move the cursor only and fire the lasers. Game Details Press BACKSPACE Pause On/Off ESC Restart game F10 Music On/Off The screen displays both players and lives remaining — in a two-player game the relevant "1-Up" or "2-Up" will flash to show which player's turn. The damage bar at the bottom of the screen relates to damage to your space station. If the bar fills up completely the game will end. There are 12 levels in S.D.I. during which you will face waves of enemy and enemy base missiles, satellites and fighters. If at any time during an offensive half you allow any enemy craft to penetrate your defences you must play a defensive half. At the end of each offensive half you will receive a report on the results of that half: a perfect score will be rewarded with 20,000 bonus points (and a dancing duck!). During play you will also come across satellites bearing bonus pods: BLUE — Extra speed when moving Satellite. RED — Multiple cursors (up to 3). YELLOW — Extra fire power (bigger explosions) To collect the bonus pods shoot at them to release them, then steer your satelite into the pod before it leaves the screen. Disk B should be left in the disk drive in order to save the high score table. SPECTRUM 48K/128K/+ ------------------- Control Options Press 0 To start game. 1 To toggle between 1 & 2 Player game. 2 Define controls. The keyboard controls are as follows: J UP N Down Z Left X Right ENTER Fire Game Controls The player controls both satellite and cursor; pressing fire will aim a laser from the satellite to the current cursor position. When using a joystick or keyboard both satellite and cursor respond to normal joystick movement. If the fire button is pressed the cursor only will move and lasers will fire. SDI may also be played as a team game, one player moving the satellite using keyboard, and a second player controlling the cursor and laser with a joystick. An additional feature on the Spectrum version is that pressing the SPACE bar will toggle between the above controls and the alternative version, in which both satellite and cursor will move whether or not the fire button is pressed.
