128 - PLUS 2 - SPECTRUM - 48 - 128 - PLUS 2 - SPECT That's you, as raw as they come, and your first introduction to army life is a set of six challenging events that will decide whether you are suitable material for a crack commando regiment. Failure to qualify for any one even will result in you not being selected for the squad. But there's one consolation; even if you don't qualify, a good performance may win you a place among the highest scorers. And, who knows, the regiment may offer you a second chance ... CONTROLS Spectrum 48/128/+2: redefinable keys, or Kempston, Sinclair, Cursor joystick options. Follow on-screen instructions. Keys must be defined, or joystick selected, before play. 1 or 2 player game is then selected by pressing the appropriate key. THE EVENTS To qualify for the crack commando regiment, you must take part in six separate events, completing each one successfully before being able to move on to the next. You are also performing against the clock, and a time limit has been set for each individual event: run out of time and you will fail to qualify. Complete the event with time to spare and you will be awarded a bonus. Apart from th Rifle and Pistol Ranges, all events require the 'joystick waggle' method to control your recruit. This involves moving the joystick from left to right, fast but at a constant speed. Tricky at first, but you'll soon get the hang of it! RIFLE RANGE Hit 16 targets in the sweltering desert heat. Any successful hits over the 16 will earn you a bonus. Use the joystick to move you rifle sights over the targets and press fire to shoot. Once a target is hit, its score will appear in its place. CROSS COUNTRY A course that involves running over a rocky terrain, and jumping over any obstacles in your path. Joystick waggle to run, fire to jump: but make sure you time it right. FITNESS COURSE The event for physical jerks! Complete the specified number of press-ups and chin-ups in the time allowed. ASSAULT COURSE A gruelling course that involves running and jumping over a number of different objects, walls and logs. Be careful not to slip or fall. PISTOL RANGE Similar to the Rifle Range, but with the added problem of having to take care not to hit a hostage. Hit one and you lose 5 seconds. TUG O' WAR The final event! Pit all your strength against your opponent, and if you succeed you're through. TIPS In the shooting events, spend some time mastering the movement of the sights with speed and accuracy. Try to anticipate where the targets will appear. With rows of 6 targets, it's possible to hit every one before they disappear. Running may be difficult at first, but aim for a steady but fast joystick action, and you should complete the course in plenty of time and with energy to spare.
