Will your Scouts help you to select the best tactics for each game? Are you really the next Busby, Clough or Shankly????? KICKING OFF 1. Connect your cassette recorder to the computer in accordance with the basic manuals. 2. Place the cassette into your recorder and press "REWIND" until the tape stops moving. 3. Type "LOAD" LIVERPOOL"" and press "ENTER". 4. Press "PLAY" on the recorder. The tape will start to move and the game will load into the computer. 5. When the game has loaded, type "RUN" and press "ENTER". The title page will be displayed and after a few moments this will be replaced by a request for your skill level. 1 is easiest, 30 is not! 6. Press "ADVANCE" on the cassette player until the tape stops moving. Press "STOP" and remove the cassette from the recorder. The game is recorded once on each side of the cassette, and is therefore ready for re-loading next time. THE MATCH The option menu allows you to: 1. SAVE (the current game). Follow the instructions on screen. 2. VIEW THE LEAGUE TABLE. (It may take a few moments for the table to be prepared, especially if there have been one or two upsets! Generally speaking, the more often you view the table, the less time it takes to prepare). 3. REVEAL YOU MANAGERIAL RATING (which is shown as a percentage. Expect it to decrease if you blow a cup game - the earlier you exit the competition the worse it will be.) 4. CONTINUE THE GAME. Enter the number of the option you require and press "ENTER" The computer will print out the league or cup results of all the other teams as appropriate. When one of your games arise, the computer will wait for you to press "ENTER" before continuing. To reload a saved game, place the cassette that you have used into your cassette recorder and proceed as under "KICKING OFF". THE SQUAD Before each game, the computer will show you the LIVERPOOL squad together with each player's skill rating (SK) and stamina (ST) A player's skill can vary from 4 to 8 at random, but will never vary by more than 1 point per "week". The higher the rating the better the player. Each time you select a player his stamina, which starts at 10, will decrease by 1. When his stamina reaches 0, he may not be selected for the next game. Each time a player is rested, he regains 2 stamina points, but the rating will never exceed 20. The only two exceptions to the above are your reserves. Each reserve has a skill level of 2, and inexhaustible stamina. You may use as many reserves as you wish, but don't expect to win any trophies with them! You must also cope with injuries - one or more of your players may be unavailable for selection each week. After selecting your team by entering the number of each player you require and pressing "ENTER" as prompted you will be asked which tactics you wish to employ. Enter 0,1 or 2 as required and press "ENTER". The screen will revert to the scoreboard and will result of your game will be revealed. SCOUTS Before each game, you will have the opportunity to spy on your opponent. If you choose to do so, press "Y" followed by "ENTER". The computer will reveal the tactivs your opponent employs, and information relating to the skill level of your opponent, depending on whether a full or partial report was requested. It will be possible to put a stronger team than your opponent "on paper" but you cannot guarantee a win even so - tactics, home advantage, and "the bounce of the ball" are all taken into account and have an influence on the result. All First Division teams' tactics will vary from season to season, but remain constant throughout each season. TACTICS You will probably prefer to develop your own tactics, but a few words of advice may be helpful. 1. Study the other team's results as they are revealed. You may be able to work out a team's tactics without using up your valuable spying missions. 2. Plan your team - if you play 4-2-4- against a team playing 4-3-3, put your two strongest players in midfield. 3. If your priority is not to concede goals (e.g. in an away European Tie) using a strong player as goalkeeper. 4. Vary your team - i.e. don't use all your strongest players so often that they all collapse at the same time! I HATE LIVERPOOL If you do then it's unlikely that you've bought this cassette. However, it is possible with a little effort to manage the team of your choice. By "LIST"ing the program you will discover a large block of DATA in lines 9800 upwards. To alter the program, replace "LIVERPOOL" in lines 9800, 9900 9903 and 9906 with the name of your chosen team and vice versa. Then type the names of your squad (17 players) in line 9805. If the real LIVERPOOL squad alters you may, of course, update your cassette using the above method. After altering the listing, save the game to a blank cassette in the normal way, by typing "SAVE "LIVERPOOL"" and pressing "ENTER". D. Corbishley 212 Walmersley Old Rd. Bury
