Welcome to my Jet Set Willy quartet! They should be played in this order : 1 : JSW 1-1 2 : JSW Stupid 3 : JSW dup moor en t'panat 4 : JSW - The Sun Is No Longer Producing Heat But obviously you can play them in any order you like. It's not as if I know where you live. JSW 1-1 is set between the original games 'Jet Set Willy' and 'Jet Set Willy II'. The green skinned builders are reconfiguring the mansion and Maria wants you to clean up after another party. Willy got fed up with his old mansion, so he bought another one. Unfortunately, his many problems have followed him. Yes, Maria is once again stopping him from going to bed until he's cleaned his new mansion. Why doesn't he hire a better cleaner? Because he's stupid! He's JSW Stupid! Willy went a little mad after all his many trials and tribulations. He grew so used to running around, collecting objects that he could not think of anything else. Stuck inside his insane mind, the only way out to... yes, collect objects! It doesn't make sense. The room names don't make the sense. And the name... ' dup moor en t'panat' , it doesn't make sense. Willy escaped from his mind, but utterly destroyed and extremely depressed. The Sun Is No Longer Producing Heat and the only way to set things right is to... collect objects. I hope you enjoy my foursome of William games. (And why haven't I seen a room made entirely out of Willy sprites? It could be called 'Just William') Come see me at www.aldridge98.fsnet.co.uk --- JSW 1-1 By N.Aldridge www.aldridge98.fsnet.co.uk Based on Jet Set Willy by Matthew Smith The plot -------- (such as it is) The time of this game is between the original Jet Set Willy and Jet Set Willy II. The strange, green-skinned builders are half way through their extensive conversion of Willy's mansion. Willy has just chucked out the last guests from a particularly rowdy party and once again Maria will not let him go to bed until he's cleared up all the mess. However, instead of sacking her and hiring a decent cleaning who will actually do the job he/she is hired to do, Willy sets about clearing up his redesigned house. The layout of the mansion is as you remember it, but every screen has changed. Can you clean the house and get some kip? The rooms --------- The basic layout of the game is the same as Jet Set Willy. Here is a list of every room, in a particular order. Some rooms even have a little commentary! Wow! (Now don't get excited, the commentary isn't that good.) --- The Pump & Whistle Public House ------------------------------- The name of the pub from those novels what I have written, cos of how good my english writey is. The crap bridge --------------- A bridge is usually connected from one side to the other. This one isn't, and is accurately described as crap. Garden ------ Leafy lane ---------- I -think- there's another JSW game out there with a screen with a similar name, but it's just a coincidence. That is, if the game and screen actually exist. Security -------- One of my more evil designs, obviously based on 'The Security Guard' - This screen has no name, but is situated to the right of 'The Pump & Whistle public house'. I just wanted to do an entirely abstract room, with no detail, just blocks of colour. Nest ---- 'The Cuckoo's Nest' was always horribly difficult, so I changed it into something a -little- easier. Megatree middle --------------- The objects are supposed to be watches, though I have no idea why. Sea --- Wow! Original, huh? Conveyor belt jumping antics! Never been done before! Front door ---------- Deliberately made this as plain as possible. Please wipe your feet --------------------- Notice that someone has taken off their boots before entering the mansion. Megatree upper -------------- Treehouse --------- I find drawing shapes using JSW blocks tricky, but a house is built from blocks, so a treehouse in the Megatree seemed appropriate. The incredible flying woman --------------------------- When I made JSW1-1 I had no way of deleting individual baddies (because I couldn't work out how the editor worked). Hence the name. The conveyor belt is negotiable. Showers : good -------------- The title comes from 'Weather Experience' by The Prodigy, which in turn takes a sample from those weather reports on Radio 4. So really, the name comes from Radio 4. Another day another dollar -------------------------- Where did this title come from? I have no idea. Insecurity ---------- Partner screen to 'security'. If Willy is so paranoid that he needs all these guards, then he must be insecure. So, 'Insecurity'. Rooftop ------- Super hat collection plus extra ------------------------------- There's a lot of hats. D.J. Vu plays retro again ------------------------- 'DJ Vu' is a character from my first novel. That's supposed to be a spectrum joystick. Dining room ----------- Spare landing ------------- Well, you have the 'Top' and 'Bottom' landings, so here's the spare. Kitchen ------- Wow... I really changed this game a lot from the original, didn't I? Larder ------ I like the conveyor belt and keys. They aren't that impressive, but I like them nonetheless. Cold storage ------------ I don't like JSW games that don't map reasonably logically. But I just liked the idea of a great frosty, evil face in the fridge, so I broke my own rules. This screen links to itself horizontally, mainly because of the face. Outlook ------- It looks out. Not a library ------------- But why are there so many books? Just how many non-funny jokes are in this game? Bottom landing -------------- Some horrible use of 'Fire' blocks here. Nasty. Willy's Nightmare ----------------- Directly beneath Willy's bedroom. Cassettes are free ------------------ Free cassettes? Fantastic! Just wanted to draw a tape in an 8*8 character, that's all. Shallow end ----------- We have explosive ----------------- Named after the Future Sound Of London track, called 'We Have Explosive', available on the marvellous album 'Dead Cities'. If you can find the special edition with the book, buy it! Toilet ------ Can you find any secret exits? Don't forget to collect the loo roll. Top landing ----------- I had loads of plans for this one. They didn't materialise. Master (only) bedroom --------------------- It is the only bedroom, you know! Above this room is 'Willy's dreams' and beneath is 'Willy's nightmare'. Rescue willy's teddy bear ------------------------- He cannot possibly go to bed without his teddy! The 3rd worse laundry chute ever -------------------------------- Two pairs of pants are caught in it. The 2nd is in the Guinness Book Of Records and the worse is so bad that it has been concreted over. And is secret. And no-one knows about it. Until now. Bible bashing ------------- Well, why not call it that? Nuclear reactor --------------- I like the 'three levels' of this screen (go left, fall down, go right, fall down, go left and exit) and the way everything just fits into place. Then the rains came ------------------- From 'Misery' by Stephen King. The full quote is 'Then the rains came and everything changed.' Willy's dreams -------------- Are very strange, as can be seen here. Good timing is needed in this room. 0 OK 0:1 -------- A report from ZX Basic, saying that a program or command has been successfully completed. Always read to me as 'Nought okay', meaning 'Nothing okay', the opposite of what it meant. Corner of the house ------------------- Cloudy day ---------- More weather references. NA is my initials. Wanted the clouds to look 'Rainbow Islandsesque.' Hidden treasure --------------- I -really- like my full skeleton at the bottom of the screen. I also like the object to the middle right of the screen, sort of 'outside' the main bit of this room. Willy's guilty secret --------------------- Yes, how did all these skulls get under the mansion? Back yard (take the rubbish out) -------------------------------- Quite an evil room, really. Badly built chimney ------------------- Actually, this should be called 'barely built chimney'. Variation on 'Nomen Luni', anyone? Wine cellar ----------- Couldn't even be bothered to change the name. But I like the guardian timings in this room. Escape velocity --------------- Highest point in the game, set in space, hence the name. Can you guess which side to fall from? Shed ---- Back stairway ------------- Trademan's entrance ------------------- That purple thing is supposed to be an arse. Not a good joke. I'm ashamed. West wing --------- Even wester wing ---------------- Yeah, I was running out of room name ideas... Twenty-five to ten ------------------ ...guess what time it was when I made this room? Observatory ----------- For some reason, that's supposed to be a bubble. Sandcastle ---------- Used to be a beach. Sister room to 'Tree House'. I like the guards. Willy's new yacht ----------------- The loveboat ------------ Notice you have to collect a heart. Incidentally, if you watch 'The Running Man', there is a poster in Killian's office promoting a TV show called 'The Hate Boat'
