Introduction In AMAZING OLLIE, Ollie the Octopus must be moved around different undersea mazes, in order to catch fish for himself, and his hungry children. AMAZING OLLIE is an entertaining program for young children to improve their numerical skills. There are options for basic recognition and counting of numbers, addition, going “against the clock”, and even an advanced option! Moving Around the Maze Ollie can be moved up, down, left and right by pressing one of the following keys: “5” key ”6” key “8” key ”7” key If, at any time, you wish to leave the maze, press the “Z” key. N.B. The numbers in the maze represent groups of fish, where one fish is shown by the symbol Start Load the program with, LOAD “” It will take about 2 minutes to load. When this has been completed, press any key to start creating your first maze. Creating Mazes Each completely new maze is generated in about 25 seconds. There are more than one million million different mazes that can be built, so you are not likely to see the same maze twice! Once the maze has been built, you may choose one of four options; 1. Finding Fish This introductory section will help children in the basic recognition and counting of numbers. The computer will select a number at random, and you must move Ollie to the corresponding group of fish in the maze. When you reach the correct number, it will be counted out, and you will be told to go to the children. Beware! Should you direct Ollie to the wrong group of fish, he will be sent back! 2. Counting Fish Here, Ollie must collect as many fish as possible before moving to his hungry children. This option is to teach counting and adding. Whenever Ollie finds a new shoal of fish, he will count out the number of fish in this catch, the previous total, and the new total in an illustrated sume, where; represents 1 fish represents 10 fish. 3. Beat the Clock! On your marks! Get set! Go! You have 80 seconds to catch as many fish as you can! And if you manage to reach the children, there is a bonus of 12 fish waiting for you. A good strategy rather than quick responses is the key to success, so try several attempts, or challenge your family and friends! Beat the Clock! includes the counting and adding feature introduced in Counting Fish. 4. Advanced Option The Advanced Option will test your ability as a true maze explorer. Once again, you must move Ollie around the maze, collecting fish for his children. But this time, only Ollie, and arrows indicating the immediate choices of direction, are shown on the screen! Good Luck!
